Administrative details
Our client is the Leonardo student association.
Especially the workshop helpers.
The Industrial Design study program has its own building called IPD at Gløshaugen.
Here is a room with around 20 3D printers.
The workshop helpers job at IPD is to help students use the printers and maintenance of the printers.
They can use the web page to know who uses the 3D printers and if anyone needs help.

Purpose and goals
The purpose of the website is allowing students to book a time with the 3D printers at
fotorommet at IPD. Allowing the students to see when a certain printer is occupied and when
it’s going to be available. This website will make a clear schedule for when the printers are
available, which ones of the printers that do not work and how you use a printer for the first
time users.
One of the goals is to let the students learn and know the 3D printers.
Making it easier for the students and workshop helpers to communicate.
Audience
The website's audience will mainly be students that want to use the 3D printers at the
Industrial Design building. Both the workshop helpers and regular students.
Since the 3D printers are used for school projects, an easy and intuitive website is
crucial for a good user experience.
The content of the site and how it is organized
Homepage
- This page will contain general information about 3D printers and links to the different pages. This will be the first page the user sees and will work as an informative page that gives the user information of what they can do at the web page.
Booking and calendar
- This page will make it possible for the user to easily book a printer at the printer room. The user will choose a printer that they want to use and that is available, and will fill in the needed information. The information the user needs to fill in is how long they will use the printer, their name and their number in case the print goes wrong and someone has to contact the user. At this page, there will also be a calendar that shows when the different printers are available for use. By having this calendar a workshop helper will be able to see when many 3D printers are in use and then know what periods it might be needed more help at the printer room.
Asking for help
- This is a page where the user can ask for help in case there occurs a problem with the printers or if the user needs help with anything. At this page it will also be possible to let the workshop helpers and other users know if there is a printer that is not working, so that the printer can not be booked by others before it is fixed.
How to use the 3D printers and FAQ
- On this page you can find a manual on how to set up the 3D-printers and how to use them correctly. It is supposed to make it easier for the workshop helpers by offering a platform where the users of the 3D printers can check the website if they have trouble using the 3D printers, instead of asking for help with every small question.
- The page will also contain a FAQ, where the users can see the most frequently asked questions. The purpose of this feature is to prevent the workshop helpers from having to answer the same questions many times.
Showcasing earlier projects
- At this page, the earlier projects will be exhibited and users will be able to see what the 3D printers are able to make. This will be a space for inspiration and sharing. The user can also add their own projects to show to others.
Functional and Non-Functional Requirements
Functional
- The website shall take students' bookings and display the booking information in a calendar.
- It shall have navigation to all of the pages in the header.
- The website should make it easy for students to send workshop assistants questions.
Non-functional
- We shall conduct a thorough UX/UI design in our platform.
- We shall include universal design so the platform can be used by all users regardless of disabilities, for instance color blindness.
- Students should be able to book a printer through only 4 clicks.
Final location
The site will be part of the existing Leonardo student association website. The people of Webba (volunteers in Leonardo student association) will be responsible for the site maintenance.
